LGU of Pura Commemorates World Aids Day 2023

The LGU of Pura, headed by Mayor Freddie D. Domingo, commemorated World AIDS Day through various activities on December 1, 2023, at the COC Multi-Purpose Arena. The RHU of Pura, led by Dr. Liberty D. Domingo and Dr. Roedel C. Dizon, organized and spearheaded the said commemoration.
Vice Mayor John Paul M. Balmores, Municipal Vice Mayor, expressed his support on the commemoration of World AIDS Day, wherein he said that there is still a critical need for increased funding for the AIDS response to raise awareness of the impact of HIV on people’s lives, to end stigma and discrimination, and to improve the quality of life of people living with HIV.
More so, Ms. Karen Mae Balot-De Jesus and Ms. Fleur Rossellini Fernando, Nurse II from the Provincial Health Office, served as Resource Speakers. They provided a lecture regarding HIV, which aims to raise awareness about the importance of engaging youth in the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS.
Likewise, three entries of the infomercial video contest were judged, wherein Maungib High School (Senior High) bagged the 1st place, while Estipona National High Schol and Maungib High School (Junior High) bagged the 2nd place and 3rd place, respectively. This infomercial video contest aimed to call the creativity and talent of students in such a way as to address the importance of HIV awareness and prevention. The judges were Ms. Jennalyn Pidot (Public Health Nurse from RHU Ramos), Ms. Heidiracielle Ramilo, Ms. Karen Mae Balot-De Jesus, and Ms. Fleur Rossellini Fernando.
In addition, highlights of the said observance were the Color Fun Run and Zumba, which were participated in by LGU employees, CSOs, students from different schools in Pura, PNP, BFP, and fellow Puranians. The purpose of the Color Fun Run is to bring people together and to raise awareness about AIDS to curb the increasing number of cases in the locality.
The lighting of candles concluded the said commemoration, which served as a tribute and prayer to all victims. The Candle Lighting activity is anchored on the ” Let Communities Lead” theme to mark communities’ pivotal impact in shaping the HIV response and global health.
World AIDS Day remains as relevant today as it is always been, reminding people and governments that HIV has not gone away.
Again, thank you to everyone who joined this significant event and for making it successful!
Congratulations to everyone!
