LGU OF PURA COMMEMORATES WORLD AIDS DAY THROUGH A COLOR FUN RUN AND THE LIGHTING OF CANDLES
The LGU of Pura, headed by Mayor Freddie D. Domingo, observed World AIDS Day through various activities on December 2. 2022. In partnership with different NGAs, the RHU of Pura, led by Dr. Liberty Domingo, spearheaded the commemoration of World AIDS Day.
Mr. Brian Von Dayrit provided a lecture regarding HIV, which aims to raise awareness about the importance of engaging youth in the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS.
In addition, highlights of the said observance were the Color Fun Run and Zumba, which were participated by LGU employees, NGOs and CSOs, students from different schools in Pura, and fellow Puranians. The purpose of the Color Fun Run is to bring people together and to raise awareness about HIV-AIDS to curb the increasing number of cases in the locality.
The lighting of candles concluded the said commemoration, which served as a tribute and prayer to all victims.
World AIDS Day remains as relevant today as it is always been, reminding people and governments that HIV has not gone away. There is still a critical need for increased funding for the AIDS response to raise awareness of the impact of HIV on people’s lives, to end stigma and discrimination, and to improve the quality of life of people living with HIV.
Again, thank you to everyone who joined this significant event and for making this event successful!
